I'm extremely pleased with the program Karl has
customized for me. He's so great at tailoring the
workouts to meet both my short term and long term
goals, whatever they may be. Not having ever before
considered myself an athlete, it has amazed me to
see him build my endurance and strength... almost
without me realizing what was happening. Plus, his
patience, positive attitude, and sense of humor
make working with him fun, in a "hard work can be
fun" kind of way. I've never once regretted hiring him
to train me. --Cheri S.

Strong and Fit for 1/2 Ironmans
|
I could not have imagined myself ever completing a marathon, let alone a half
Ironman in this lifetime....and frankly, would not have been able to without you.
Your experience and ongoing commitment to fitness is absolutely motivating. Your
fitness is amazing, yet never intimidating. As a coach, you always made me feel
empowered, strong and fit. You never made me feel like I could not keep up, or I
was losing ground, or that I could not reach my ultimate goal of competing in a
selected race.
Your encouragement has been honed in fine form. Your "laid back" attitude is
refreshing. Hey, there are good days and bad days....even when I missed a day (or
almost a week) you never made me feel like I wouldn't make it to the ultimate goal
of finishing the 1/2 Ironman. You are great at giving us the tools to succeed and
somehow getting us to motivate ourselves, yet we know, somewhere in the
background is your voice saying, "You can do this, piece of cake!"
Your selflessness is admirable. Although you can go faster, longer, stronger... you
don't. Even in competitive races, you hang back, help us out and finish last if that's
what it takes.

61 yrs old, 8 marathons and 1 ultra later
|
I have been a client of Karl's for about eight years
now. In that time, I have run 8 marathons and one
ultra. He not only trained me but ran most of them
with me.
His enthusiasm and words of encouragement got
me where I am today. I am 61 years old and in the
best shape of my life, thanks to Karl's weight
training sessions, training runs and nutritional
guidelines he set for me. It's been the best thing
I've ever done.

Pikes Peak 2005--My First Trail Marathon
|
Who you gonna call? That’s how I felt mid April, 2005. I had signed up for the
Pikes Peak Marathon on March 1st and had done nothing since. I was beginning
to get a sick feeling about the whole thing as August didn’t seem that far away. I
had no formal training for long distance running, although I had run short
distances off and on for the past 10-15 years and had managed to complete the
Gobbler Grind Marathon with a significant amount of walking.
My friends told me to call Karl. I did, and it was one of the best calls I’ve ever
made. Karl met with me, determined what my work and family life was like and
set up a schedule for the month of May. The schedule was adjusted monthly as
Karl figured out where my fitness level was. He has an amazing sense of
knowing when the training is too hard or too easy. Karl provided nutrition advice
for daily meals as well as setting me up with the Hammer products for training
and race day. Karl was always available for questions and provided guidance on
stretching and minor injuries. Karl’s wife, Paula, was assigned to run with me on
numerous occasions to see how I was progressing and to provide coaching and
encouragement.
Well, I was successful at the Pikes Peak Marathon, thanks in large part to Karl and
Paula! I also improved my Gobbler Grind Marathon time by 45 minutes! Plus, I
have continued running with Karl and Paula, recently completing a 31 mile (50K)
trail run. I look forward to many more adventures with the Keltners! Thank you for
helping me achieve these goals! --Jonette K.

47 years old, 14 weeks and My First 1/2 Ironman
|
Koach takes all the guess work out of training. Just pick an
event, and he will have you ready for it. I had not competed in
any endurance events, and at 47 years old, Koach had me
ready for a half Ironman in just 14 weeks. He is amazing.

Jonette returned and did Pikes Peak Marathon again, in 2006, and is signed up for 2007!

“You get the best out of others when you give the best of yourself.” Koach Karl’s integrity to what he does will bring
out the best in you. You simply don’t want to let him down.
I spoke to Karl about entering Brew to Brew after completing the Nike Marathon with Team In Training. We
discussed my marathon times and he said that B2B was “completely doable” based on those. We discussed
nutrition for health, training and racing. I never felt tired or drained. (As a bonus, I also lost 30 pounds!) Through an
injury and a few snowstorms, Karl adjusted my training to maximize my benefit while using my time efficiently.
Karl’s patience is artfully entwined with humor to get you through the rough spots. Always encouraging, he is there
for you when you need it and backs away when appropriate. Sometimes, he knows this better than you do.
I successfully completed Brew to Brew with Karl by following his training plans along with the support and guidance
that he expertly doles out. He will give you everything that you need to succeed, and you will want to do your best.
He has given you his. --Bobbi T.
